Anthropic, Claude, and SpaceX Compute
The Anthropic compute deal shows how Musk-linked infrastructure can affect the broader AI market, including Claude.
Anthropic announced a SpaceX compute arrangement involving Colossus 1 capacity to increase limits for Claude, Claude Code, and API users. Muskularity should track this as a major example of compute becoming strategic infrastructure across rival AI companies.
The important twist is that this is not simply “xAI versus Anthropic.” Anthropic says the agreement with SpaceX increases compute capacity for Claude, while xAI’s announcement frames Anthropic access around Colossus 1. That makes the deal a bridge between Musk-linked infrastructure and one of xAI’s AI rivals.
What Anthropic Says Changed
Anthropic’s May 6, 2026 announcement says:
- Claude Code five-hour rate limits doubled for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans.
- Peak-hour limit reductions were removed for Claude Code Pro and Max accounts.
- API rate limits for Claude Opus models were raised.
- The SpaceX agreement provides access to more than 300 megawatts of new capacity and over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs.
What xAI Says
xAI says SpaceXAI signed an agreement with Anthropic to provide access to Colossus 1, which xAI describes as one of the largest and fastest-deployed AI supercomputers. xAI also says Anthropic expressed interest in orbital AI compute capacity.
Why It Matters
This deal makes compute a first-class Muskularity topic:
- Model quality is no longer the only story; capacity and user limits matter too.
- Rival AI companies may still depend on shared or partner infrastructure.
- SpaceX, energy, chips, data centers, and possibly orbital compute now belong in the AI Wars lane.
- Claims about capacity should be tracked by date because AI infrastructure changes quickly.
