Musk's 'Biggest Concern': A 2028 Democratic Sweep Means a 'Permanent One-Party State' — and 51 Senators Is the Whole Answer
On Oct. 30, 2026, four days before the midterms, Elon Musk posted his biggest concern: a Democratic clean sweep in 2028 would bring DC and Puerto Rico statehood, mass legalization, and a packed Supreme Court. The full post, the Benny Johnson video that carried it, the money behind it, and the other side — labeled.

Four days before the Nov. 3 midterms, Elon Musk made the whole election about one number: 51.
On Oct. 30, 2026, he posted the warning in full on X. Benny Johnson’s breakdown of it is the version most of the country watched:
Label: Commentary. Johnson’s video is reaction and amplification. The primary source is Musk’s own post, printed in full below.
The post (Primary)
“My biggest concern is that if there is a clean sweep by Democrats of the House, Senate and Presidency in 2028, they will:
- Make DC and Puerto Rico states to gain a strong majority in the Senate.
- Open the borders and legalize everyone living in America illegally to cement a permanent majority.
- Increase the size of the Supreme Court to gain an immediate majority.
This would result in America becoming a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word.
All that is needed to ensure this doesn’t happen is 51 Republican senators in 2029. That is why you should vote for Republican senators this election. Other reasons are irrelevant compared to this one.”
Label: Primary — Musk’s own words, posted to X on Oct. 30, 2026.
What he is actually arguing
Each of the three moves needs unified Democratic control of the House, Senate, and Presidency — and each one, in Musk’s argument, is permanent in a way a normal election win is not: new states add senators who do not expire, a legalized population changes the electorate itself, and a resized Court holds its majority for a generation. That is why his ask is so narrow. Not the House, not the White House — Senate seats in this cycle, because the Senate seated in 2029 is the chamber each of the three moves would have to pass through.
The money behind the message (Reported)
Musk is not a bystander in this election. The Associated Press reported he has put more than $276 million into Republican-aligned groups since July, including $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund — the single line item our midterm money page traced through the September FEC filings — and $76 million to his own America PAC. Label: Reported — the AP tally; the filings underneath it are the primary layer.
The other side (Reported)
Critics read the post as electioneering rather than forecast: the three moves are things Democrats have debated for decades, none of them is an announced unified 2028 platform, and Musk’s own fortune is the largest single stake in the outcome he is warning about. One widely shared Substack account further claimed X’s Community Notes flagged the post and the note was then buried for ratings — a claim about the platform’s own fact-check system that Muskularity has not verified. Label: Claim on the notes story; Reported on the criticism.
What happens next
- Nov. 3, 2026: the midterms decide the Senate Musk is counting on.
- 2028: the clean sweep he is warning about is the next presidential cycle.
- 2029: his stated line — 51 Republican senators — either holds or it doesn’t.
