Florida Gigabay and the LC-39A Starship pad
On March 3, 2025, SpaceX described a Florida Gigabay targeted for the end of 2026 and a Starship pad at Kennedy LC-39A, with a first Florida launch hoped for late 2025 pending reviews.

Summary
SpaceX said Starship production and launch are expanding to Florida while testing continues at Starbase, which it called its headquarters. The Florida integration building, Gigabay, is planned beside HangarX at Kennedy Space Center. Dimensions given: 380 feet tall, about 46.5 million cubic feet inside, 815,000 square feet of workspace, vehicles up to 81 meters (266 feet), 24 work cells, and cranes up to 400 U.S. tons. Against the Starbase Megabays, SpaceX said Gigabay has more than 11 times the workspace square footage, 19 more work cells, and more than twice the crane capacity. Construction was targeted to finish, and the building to operate, by the end of 2026. A second Gigabay at Starbase, next to Starfactory, had the same end-of-2026 target. A Florida factory like Starfactory was described as in design, not as a started plant. Until then, ships and boosters would move from Starbase by barge.
At Launch Complex 39A, SpaceX said the tower was stacked in 2022 and that a flame deflector, nearly identical to Starbase’s second pad, would be installed in the coming months. The first Florida Starship launch was intended for late 2025 from LC-39A, pending environmental reviews. SpaceX also said it had a limited right of entry at Space Launch Complex 37, the former Saturn I/IB and Delta IV pad, to support an Air Force environmental impact statement. That is site diligence, not a license to fly.
The payload purpose named at the end is the multiplanetary one: cargo, people, and the tankers for on-orbit refueling. “Millions of tons” to Mars is company vision language.
Key facts
| Fact | Label |
|---|---|
| Florida Gigabay: 380 ft, 815,000 sq ft workspace, 24 cells, 400-ton cranes | Company building plan |
| Both Gigabays targeted to be complete by the end of 2026 | Company schedule target |
| LC-39A tower stacked in 2022; first Florida launch intended for late 2025 if reviews allow | Company plan, conditional |
| Limited right of entry at SLC-37 for environmental study | Company description of access, not flight approval |
Why it matters
Starbase remains the test site. This post is the production-and-pad plan that the later multi-user spaceport argument assumes. Late 2025 for a first Florida launch was a target tied to environmental review, not a license date.
