Summary

SpaceX said Falcon 9 would launch Dragon’s sixth commercial astronaut mission, Fram2, from Florida no earlier than late 2024. The plan was a three-to-five-day flight in a polar orbit at 425 to 450 kilometers, observing the poles through the cupola, including emissions the crew would compare with the phenomenon known as STEVE. Research named in the post: the first human X-ray images in space, just-in-time training tools, and behavioral-health effects of spaceflight.

The crew, each on a first flight: Chun Wang of Malta, commander; Jannicke Mikkelsen of Norway, vehicle commander; Eric Philips of Australia, pilot; Rabea Rogge of Germany, mission specialist.

The context tally is a company count of the human-flight program at that date: 13 human spaceflight missions and 50 crewmembers in four years, and 46 Dragon missions to orbit overall.

Why it matters

Fram2 is the Dragon mission later cited when Wang is named to a Starship Mars flyby plan. The polar flight itself was still a target when this post went up.
